The creative process on purpose with the Heart

How do you know if you are on purpose with your creative process? What are the signposts? Do you recognize your signposts?  Do they change with different creative projects?

This was the painting that was the result of a creative process that started weeks ago but I did not know it’s purpose until today! This post is about that creative process and the evolving purpose.

Most of the time I don’t really know until the purpose reveals itself. This past week or so I was inspired to do some painting that was just for fun, to play with my heart’s garden of flowers and enjoy time with watercolor. Before I got very far….gratitude surfaced…..

As time progressed more of the garden emerged.

As of this morning, this is how far it had progressed.  I was inspired to complete it today when my daughter sent me a text and pointed out that it is International Haiku Poetry Day. I did not know that but since my heart speaks haiku….well, thus, the creative process seemed to deepen into its purpose. And then there is the moment when you have to tune into the creative process and decide when to stop. This is always a challenge!

The next step for me was to scan and some Photoshop paint. I resisted my inner obsessive perfectionist this time and just had some fun with haiku, light and shadows.

The signposts in this particular creative process included gratitude – the flowering of the heart!  It also included the joy of discovery as the painting and purpose evolved.  Another signpost was how much fun I was having with watercolor and how little I was “obsessing” over details and perfection.  Big signpost: JOY!

The result of this creative process and the purpose that developed is this week’s Heart Haiku. A painting that began as play and practice, evolved to expressing gratitude and then to become the focus of this posting and this week’s Heart Haiku:

“my Heart speaks haiku

moved to give thanks for God’s Grace

always give thanks”
